The City of Mustang provides a " Spotlight Employee" each month so that citizens can learn more about the public servants that contribute to our City running smoothly. The Spotlight Employee will feature answers to a series of questions about the selected employee, the department and position they serve in, and unique likes and interests of the employee.
The January Employee Spotlight is City Planner Ryan Conner
How long have you worked for the City of Mustang? I started working for the City of Mustang in April of 2022 - so roughly two and a half years ago.
Where were you born? (Hospital is not a permitted answer) I was born in Louisville, Kentucky. Pronounced "Loo-uh-vul" - all other incorrect pronunciations will raise an eyebrow of a Kentuckian.
How long have you lived in Mustang? I live in Oklahoma City in a historic neighborhood near the fairgrounds. My house was bult in 1930, so its approaching almost a century in age! I've lived there since 2019 and have only had to fix/remodel about a dozen things, for now. Next project - update the old cloth electrical wiring.
Are you married? If so, for how long? Children? I have been married to my wife Taylor since 2016. College sweethearts. We just welcomed our first child, Francine, this last September!
What do you enjoy the most about working for the City of Mustang? I most enjoy serving the public and helping to foster planned development that benefits the community. I look forward every day to helping people navigate projects as simple as a shed in their backyard to a complex mixed use development years in the making.
What project have you been a part of while employed by the City of Mustang that you enjoyed the most? I've enjoyed being a part of the Leadership Canadian County program. Through this program I represented Mustang with other emerging leaders from Canadian County to collaborate with and learn more from vital businesses and industries that keep our area of the metro thriving.
Favorite Food? Does dessert count? My all-time favorite would be Black Forest Cake. The dark chocolate sponge soaked in the sour cherry kirsch with whipped cream layers is absolutely delicious.
Favorite Recording Artist? My favorite band is Muse. I saw them in concert last year for the first time and it was an incredible show.
Do you have a secret skill or talent? I find that I am usually serviceable in remembering random facts and tidbits that make me a worthwhile teammate on a pub trivia team or annoying while watching Jeopardy.
You recently became a father. How has your life changed as a result of the arrival of your daughter? Becoming a father has been an incredibly happy feeling. Immediately upon holding my daughter for the first time let in a rush of emotion I'm still feeling every day. My perspective on life and what matters most increasingly becomes clearer when I see her bright smiling face each morning.
