Public Improvements
Work Within Right-of-Ways and Easements, Public Improvements
Successful property development often requires utility extensions and right-of-way improvements. City Staff thoroughly reviews construction plans for any proposed improvements and/or extensions to existing infrastructure. No improvement can be installed without plan approval, inspections and maintenance bonding.
Streets & Roads
Improvements within the right-of-ways of State Highway 152, S. Sara Road (S. S.H. 4) and N. Mustang Road (N. S.H. 4) are subject to approval by the City of Mustang and the Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT). Improvements within the right-of-ways of all other streets must be reviewed by the Community Development Department and the City Engineer's Office.
Information regarding street regulations can be found in Chapters 102 and 106 of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Mustang, OK.
Sidewalks
Sidewalks are the threads that bind neighborhoods together and they are required in most residential areas citywide. Standards for sidewalks are found in Chapters 102, 106 and 122 of the Code. Sidewalks being installed in city right-of-ways must be inspected and approved by City Staff; those bordering state highways are subject to ODOT approval as well.
Water Distribution System
Water system alterations and extensions must be reviewed by City Staff. Furthermore, an Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality ("ODEQ") Construction Permit is typically required prior commencing any work. All work must be inspected prior to covering (See Sec. 106-472 of the Code) and most work must be bonded in accordance with Section 106-475 of the Code.
Sanitary Sewer System
Sanitary sewer service is required for small lot developments and on commercial properties. Any alterations or extensions to the sanitary sewer interceptor system must be reviewed by City Staff. ODEQ construction permits are required in most cases as well as a formal report from the design engineer. Sanitary sewer extensions must also be inspected and bonded in accordance with the Code.
Other Work
Tunneling, cutting and drainage improvements within private and public right-of-ways and easements may be subject to City regulations. Please contact the Community Development Department at (405) 376-9873 well in advance of commencing work. We are in the process of revising our ordinances and standards, and license(s) and/or permit(s) may be required.
